Andrew Thompson


Andrew is a BAFTA and RTS nominated Lighting Cameraman / DOP who has 15 years experience filming all over the world for C4, BBC, National Geographic and Discovery. He shoots on all formats from Super 16mm, through DVCAM, Digibeta and all HD formats, often shooting in hostile environments. He has shot everything from the frontlines of Afghanistan and Iraq, to the Baka tribe hunting elephants in the Congo!  His broad experience covers everything from feature length documentary films and presenter-lead series to obs. doc. series, natural history / adventure programs and reality TV formats.  In addition he has worked with Comic Relief and made other short films for campaigns, charities and commercials. In 2009 he shot and co-directed his first theatrical feature length documentary ‘Mugabe and the White African’ winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the AFI / Discovery Silverdocs Film Festival. Presenter-lead series include Rivers with Gryff Rhys Jones (Modern TV), Tourist Trail with John Sergeant (Mentorn Media), Africa with Bob Geldof (Blakeway) and Ross Kemp on Gangs (Tiger Aspect), and Ross Kemp In Afghanistan (Tiger Aspect). Documentary series include The Genius of Photography (Wall to Wall Television), Sex Traffic (October Films), The Story of God (BBC), Saving Planet Earth (BBC). Documentary singles include Brian Keenan in Lebanon (Chistera Productions), Inside the Kingdom (Million Media), Zebrugge (BBC) and Krakatoa (BBC). Formats and reality series he has recently worked on are River Cottage (Keo Films), Secret Millionaire (RDF), Ramsey’s Kitchen Nightmares (Optomen TV) and Make Me a Supermodel (Tiger Aspect). In 2008, Andrew formed Explore Films with partner Lucy Bailey.
